Clyde Johnson

I am a native of Chicago, IL , my family moved to Lincoln when I was a teenager. While living in Chicago I developed a love for sports, specifically basketball and boxing. After playing collegiately, and a short professional basketball career, I pursued my passion for boxing. I went on to have a stellar amateur career to an undefeated professional career. My three inspirations in boxing are Andrea Ward, Terrence Crawford, and Muhammad Ali. Most important my three favorites titles are being a man of faith, a husband, and a father to two children. I would like to thank Lincoln and all surrounding areas for the support this far in my career, and know this, if my name is on the ballot and I am in the ring, I promise to give it my all.

Southside boxing at The Complex has been more than a blessing to myself and my daughter. Southside boxing has brought me a place to be free and by myself with zero judgement. You can find me there everyday, bringing hard work and passion, for this sport that I have fallen deeply in love with. I also love to be a beacon of positivity for all my teammates and anybody needing to find their own strength on their path. To inspire females regardless of their age to try something outside of the box and go against social normalities. Most importantly, to dedicate time to be there as a support and to make sure nobody ever feels left out or alone, giving you a place to go and a way out of whatever situation you may be in. Southside boxing has become greater than a home to me and my family and I hope it can be one for you as well.

Jack Freriks

The old saying in life is if you’re looking for trouble, you will find wherever you live. For most of Jack’s teen years that lifestyle fit him just fine as not only did he get in trouble, but he sought it out. Growing up in poverty with plenty of family battling their own demons led to plenty of schoolyard battles and at times 3 on 1 brawls, wherever and whenever. That behavior would lead to most of his teen years in juvenile programs. “Kearney helped because I learned that fighting for no purpose and losing your freedom just because everyone wanted to see you fight is not worth it. I started to realize that everyone cheering and edging me on, we’re living through me but not with me. It was me and me alone doing the time.” Around 20, Jack started training in MMA and sharpening his skills but this time in controlling anger through a sophisticated sport and competition. After a few years of training and competing in MMA, Jack started sparring with a lot of well known boxers in the Lincoln/Omaha area. His grappling skills in MMA were average but he has always possessed strong striking skills so the transition to boxing was smooth. Trouble would still mount for jack as an adult but the boxing gym would get his life back on track every time. Back in late August when Jack found out who he have to face to win the title fight, he simply locked in. The young man that used to lose his cool when pressure came his way was replaced by a chiseled and mentally prepared professional athlete. On October 5th he found purpose inside and outside of the ring when he heard the words, your winner of the NEW Nebraska State Light Heavyweight champion, Jack “Lawless” Freriks.
